[It probably isn't surprising to hear that not a single line of coding in Metal's system pertains to care. There's a lot about killing, maiming and causing general havoc, but preventing or treating injuries is not within his wheelhouse. The idea that he'd ever use what Eggman gave him for the purpose of rescue - to protect someone, to prevent harm - would probably make the guy pull out his mustache in frustration.

He's a weapon after all. Even after his rebellion, it's all he chose to be.

But when he saw Ryoko there, nobody around to look out for her, it was the vulnerability about the whole situation that made him stay. It made him hesitate to leave - to leave her to her fate in the hope someone else would take care of it. What if they didn't? He ran the scenario over and over in his head a thousand times and the odds were not in her favour, quite literally. What if they didn't? What if.

What if.

The hesitation to abandon her is why they're here. It's why when she complains about the brightness, the thunk thunk thunk of his footsteps caused by that 300lbs frame of his is followed shortly by the sound of the curtain by her bed being pulled across the rail it's draped from, to obscure the light shining in through the window.]

If it remains too bright, you will have to endure it.

[He can't block out the sun.

[ ... Ryoko squints at him again. This time, it's uncertainty making her brow furrow more than anything else. ]

I think I'll survive. [ Her voice croaks, as if from disuse. Just how long was she out? ] Or I'm guessing that I will, at least. You don't exactly make it easy to tell.

[ She could be bleeding out all over the bedcovers and she doesn't think his approach would change all that much. ]

Where am I? ... or, where are we, I should say.

This is a clinic on the border of Sutoku and Enma territory. The owner is not here, but I do not believe she will mind.

[He ran into her once. Seemed nice.

Not exactly an endearing quality in and of itself, but he did mark her down in his brain as "would overlook breaking and entering for someone's safety". This qualifies.

It's all he really says. He isn't going to go on and say he saved her or anything, even though it's what happened.]

[ With her good hand, she presses down into the mattress to try and push herself up to at least sit and look around. Almost immediately, her shoulder blades and chest make their noisy protest known and she spits something deeply unladylike under her breath. ]

My guess would be some sort of reckless abandon on your part.

My legs? [ She sounds more offended by that than legitimately concerned. ] So even once I'm out of bed, my movement will be compromised...

[ Great. This is going to cause all kinds of setbacks. God knows when she'll be able to ride her bike again and with that off the table, she won't be able to do any work. She has the money to at least keep herself fed and watered for the time being but it irritates her beyond belief to have a roadblock like this suddenly plopped in front of her. ]

So, what do we do? Wait until whoever mans this clinic comes back?

Understand that I was designed as a weapon. I say this with no aptitude for medicine.

But if you remain untreated, it could be risky.

[Even if Eggman got his ass kicked or caught in an explosion, he probably tended to himself. Metal's brain can't lose any precious space that's really needed for faster murder.

[And then he’d have no hands! And that wouldn’t be helpful.

It will be alright like this. If you have tended to your own wounds before, then logically your own hands are optimal for this kind of task.

[It's even her voice! Just, y'know, with Metal's general unemotiveness.]

[ Ryoko, perhaps understandably, almost falls out of bed. Or rather, more specifically, she tries to leap to her feet in alarm when Metal gloops all over the floor, fails due to being grievously injured and ends up dangling precariously off the edge off the mattress and gaping up at him as he reforms.

So, you know, getting off to a great start on the medical treatment. ]

You– [ She splutters a bit. Just give her a second. ] At least give me a warning before doing something like that!

[Look, it's fine - even with Ryoko's body it's not like he doesn't maintain all the cool things that make him a cool robot. The "Ryoko" in front of her moves faster than the genuine article probably ever has, managing to close the gap between them instantly and reach out with both hands to support her as she dangles off the edge of the mattress.

Not sure what her expectations for his new look are but honestly? The hands holding her feel just like the real deal. Even the body temperature matches, eerily.]

You are injured - we discussed this only a moment ago. [He guides her back into a more...well, as comfortable as she can be lying down in her current state...position. So now she just has herself looking down at her.] I must revaluate whether you are reckless or self destructive.

It is something I cannot relate to. I have had several of my bodies destroyed in the past. The first time, my AI chip was even destroyed yet was recreated using data salvaged by my creator. I do not share your sentimentality.

It isn't sentimentality. Humans don't usually see themselves like this unless they're looking in a mirror. If I'm seeing an exact copy of myself moving around and acting without my say so, that usually means something very wrong is going on.
