I won't die, Osachi.

[ She says it so quick she nearly cuts Nao off. From anyone else that might have sounded determined. Hopeful, even. But coming from Ayaka it just sounds flat and unaffected. She's saying it as easily as she might declare the sky to be blue, grass to be green and the dead to be untrustworthy in matters of staying in their own graves. ]

Killing me without the rest of you would ruin the whole point of their game besides that. The further we stay away from each other, the less likely it is someone will die. I would've thought you'd all figured it out by now.

[She frowns. From her that definitely isn't any consolation. If anything, that cements what she had thought. This woman isn't a friend of theirs.]

That might be true. [She doesn't really seem all that sad about that. Though, she does sigh heavily.] Though, the opposite is also true. If we're all together we can make sure no one does. If we split off then we can't see where everyone is. If a single person leaves the group it's easier for someone to die.

[ You might die, Ayaka thinks, idly twisting a lock of hair between her fingers. But I won't. She has the good sense not to say this out loud -- for Osachi to be so relentless in getting her to stick with the group then there must be some element of mistrust at play. Either she mistrusts the group as a whole (wise and potentially convenient) or Ayaka specifically (considerably wiser but also considerably less convenient). She'll have to play it safe until she works out which one it is. ]

You're trying to sell me safety in numbers. [ She cracks just the faintest hint of a smile. ] It didn't work much the first time around, did it?

[Nao narrows her eyes just slightly before moving back to a small, sad smile. It's true, it didn't.]

I won't say anything against Xander-san but he was away from the group when he was pushed. [Then, her smile fades as she looks Ayaka in the eye again.] I did notice, though, that smile at the execution.

[A small smile almost like the one Ayaka is barely showing her now. That, more than the agitation at the meetings, had been all Nao needed to know.]

You're not the one I'm worried about, Kamiji-san.

[ ... Oh. Oh this is interesting. She'd long since written Nao off as useless, not worth worrying about. Just another little girl in over her head. But this is bold. Stupid, of course -- they're alone. Ayaka could gut her like a fish if she so decided to and she's still trotting that line out?

But it's still not something she'd expect from Medicinal.

Ayaka's expression changes subtly. It's nothing as obvious as a smirk or a grin but she looks faintly pleased. Faintly smug. ]

I don't know what you're talking about. You all wanted to see justice and that's what you got. Why does a smile make you suspicious?

You were the only one doing it and it wasn't relief.

[She was sure of that. If it was, why was Ayaka hiding it?] That aside, I really am asking you to go back to the group.

Then we'll have to get to know each other really well, Kamiji-san.

And how exactly do you plan on us doing that?

[She's still not as much of a shit as you, Miss Ayaka Kamiji.]

I'm going to keep an eye on you. Everyone else knows that so if you do kill me they'll know right away.

[She thought ahead!]

[ For a long, long moment, Ayaka doesn't say anything. She just stares Nao down with her brow slightly furrowed but there's something dancing behind her eyes that makes it obvious she's trying to keep her expression neutral. Because -- Nao Osachi, of all girls. Nao Osachi has seen right through her.

Slowly, the corners of Ayaka's lips turn up. It's not quite a smile or a grin. It's a little closer to the smuggest of smirks.

God. This is so interesting. ]

Then it looks like we'll be getting to know each other. Medicinal.

I think so, too, Militant.

[Really, what was there to say that? It was true. Somehow she knows she perked Ayaka's interest and she really couldn't care less.]

Hopefully we both make it home.
