To me? [ He specifically came to find you while you were hanging out on your own, don't look so surprised, Sophie. ] Um–

[ She feels a little flustered, more than anything, or caught off guard – that on an evening like this, Pierce would come to her rather than the others. But she puts that feeling quickly to the back of her mind. ]

W–well, if it'll help you, then I'd be happy to talk.

[theotherdragon]

Yeah. Uh...

[ Pierce was never any good at expressing himself. Not with words, at least. This conversation had played out a dozen different ways in his head, but now he couldn't remember any of them. ]

Okay. What are you going to do when this is all over?

[summerbloom]

[ She very visibly stalls at his question. When this is all over. She tries to come up with a response but she realizes that... she doesn't really have one. She just can't make herself move past the huge wall in her mind that stands between them and the future – a wall she can't even begin to imagine scaling.

She tries, for a few moments... and then she just sighs. ]

I... really don't know yet. I'm sure there's plenty of things I could do but... it's hard enough to imagine this all being over in the first place.

[theotherdragon]

Yeah, I know what you mean. Everything's been leading up to this for so long, it's hard to think about anything after the battle.

But...

[ Deep breath. Just say it, Pierce. ]

...Come with me, Sophie. I don't know exactly where I'm going next, but we can figure that out together.

[summerbloom]

[ She looks a little flummoxed. He said that... a bit more dramatically than it needed to be said, didn't he? ]

Huh? Well, of course I will, if that's what you want. I can do alchemy just about anywhere, so it's not like I need to...

[ She gradually trails off as she speaks, like the implications of his words are catching up on her just then. And then quite abruptly...

Sophie goes really red. ]

Ah. Um.

N–no, I mean– just a second. When you say– 'with you', do you just mean as travelling companions– or maybe– d–do you mean with you?

[ She's looking basically anywhere but at Pierce right now. ]

[theotherdragon]

[ The more he talks, the more his confidence returns. Don't think about what to say, just open your heart and let the words flow out. ]

You're goddamn incredible, Sophie. Your passion for alchemy makes me want to give you everything just so that I can see what the future you'd build looks like. You're beautiful, smarter than me, and strong as hell in all the ways that really matter.

I never admitted it, even to myself, but I guess I fell for you hard at some point along the journey that brought us this far. Hell, maybe it was at the very start.

[summerbloom]

Ah, wh— you– w–wait, wait, just a second!

[ Is it possible to pass out from going so, so very red? Who knows, but Sophie looks well on the way to finding out. ]

Y–you're saying all this, but– I'm– I'm really nothing amazing, like you're saying! All I've ever done is just... follow after what Teacher told me to do, because I didn't know anything else! I've only come this far because I had you and everyone else with me!

C–compared to me– how can you say all that and not see how amazing you are? And– and even though, all his time, I've– I've always—

[ Just... give her a second and you might eventually get a full sentence out of her. ]

[theotherdragon]

[ This is quite a response. It's that last part, though, that gets Pierce's attention. ]

Wait. You've always... always what?

[summerbloom]

W–well, it's just... um...

[ She stops, just long enough to take several long breaths and... attempt to calm herself down. It doesn't really work. ]

I've always thought it'd be wonderful if... if the two of us would be able to travel together someday as.... c–companions.

[ She looks like she's going to combust even putting it like that, so her meaning is unmistakable. ]

[theotherdragon]

[ Pierce is quiet for a moment.

Then, he suddenly bursts out in laughter. ]

What the hell! We should've had this conversation months ago.

[summerbloom]

[ And Sophie just sort of – helplessly covers her face with her hands, burning up with embarrassment. ]

Don't laugh! [ It's not a very strong protest, given that Sophie's voice sounds like it's on the verge of shaking into laughter at any moment. ] If I'd known, I would've said something sooner!

[theotherdragon]

All right, all right. [ He's still laughing a little. It's just a reaction to all the anxiety he isn't feeling anymore. ]

In that case, I want a proper answer. My heart is yours, if you'll have it. What do you say to that?

[summerbloom]

I– I say yes, of course– b–but on one condition!

[ She clasps her hands in front of her, holding tight onto herself to fight the urge to cover her face again – she wants to look Pierce in the eye while she says this. He deserves that much, at least. ]

If you're going to give me your heart... then you have to promise to take mine as well!

[theotherdragon]

[ Actions speak louder than words, right?

Pierce pulls Sophie close and kisses her. After a long moment, he pulls back again, his face still just a few inches from hers. ]

There's my promise. I'm never gonna let you go, okay?

[summerbloom]

[ You'd think with how well Sophie knows Pierce or at least by the way this conversation was going, she might've been at least a little prepared for that – but going by the way every bit of colour seems to have slammed back into her face when they part, apparently lot. But even though she's redder in the face than perhaps any other human has been before – she's beaming. ]

Yes! I– I promise I won't, either!

[ And then as if to underline that, Sophie flings her arms around him, laughing with nerves and delight at the same time. ]

I promise I'll always be with you!
