[ Yuuri doesn't know which one of these people it's going to end up being. Not at first, anyway. But she knows the instant those rules are in effect that she's going to kill one of them.

She has to get out of here. She spends the week smiling and caring and playing along but under all of it, in her heart, she feels like screaming. Because she's here all by herself with nary a whisper of anyone else she knows and if Yuuri is here that means Ruu is all by herself. Yuuri had last seen her under the soles of Ayaka Kamimochi's boots woozy and wounded and the last she remembered before blinking awake in this school had been tearing through the grounds of Saint Isidore University to try and find her. She has to get out. She needs to escape.

She has no plan, no target in mind, but by the time Thursday night rolls around she can't take the wait any longer. She's so desperately anxious that she can feel it clawing at the walls of her ribs with every beat of her heart, Ruu-chan, Ruu-chan, Ruu-chan thumping through her head in time with her pulse. She's never killed anyone before, never wanted to but if it means escaping, if it means saving her sister then there's not one single person here Yuuri would hesitate in targeting. ]

Oh, Karamatsu-kun. You're out late, aren't you?

[ Not even someone she considers a friend.

She stops where she is, turns and gives him a warm, beaming smile. She doesn't think he'd ever guess why she's out this late but she doesn't want to give him any reason to suspect her. Not when Karamatsu's given her the opportunity she needs on a silver platter. ]

[karappo]

[Karamatsu nods, playing with the strap of the guitar he has slung over his shoulder. It doesn't belong to him, but there's no rules about taking things from the rooms. This guitar has become his as far as he's concerned. He can't help but smile back when Yuuri does, his worries about being out this late alleviated when he sees he's not alone.]

A bit, yes. I stayed behind for a while to practice...but I was just heading back to the dorms. What brings you out at this hour?

[serrata]

Nothing much.

[ Just keep smiling, just pretend there's not a single thing wrong. Not that Karamatsu would suspect her anyway, she doesn't think. ]

I was just having some trouble getting to sleep. I thought a walk might clear my head a little bit but it hasn't done me much good so far.

[ She has to get them away from the dorms. She can't risk anyone seeing her with Karamatsu. ]

What song were you playing, then?

[karappo]

I see...that is a good idea, if nothing else.

[He smooths his hand along the body of the guitar, thoughtful.]

Eh? Oh, ah...one of my songs from home that I had been writing. But since I do not have my notes, it may as well be like I am starting over.

[serrata]

You write music?

[ ... oh. Oh, that's just perfect.

She affects a bashful, pigeon-toed stance and leans in a little, head tiled and her hair spilling over her shoulder. Look, look, isn't she just so innocent and harmless? ]

Do you think I could hear you play some?

[karappo]

[She really does...it's enough to make a Matsuno melt, turning to puddy in her hands.

He nods dumbly, then shakes his head to snap himself out of it so he can actually. You know, answer her.]

Of- of course! Any time, I will play anything for you!

[serrata]

Then how about now? If neither of us can sleep, then we might as well.

[ Putting aside that Karamatsu never said that -- because it's a good line, isn't it? It sounds perfectly reasonable. ]

Oh, but... probably not so close to where everyone else is sleeping, though. I don't want to wake everybody up.

[karappo]

[She isn't entirely wrong, at least. He hasn't been sleeping well lately anyway due to the circumstances. And Yuuri could get him to do anything...almost literally anything, really.

Karamatsu nods. That sounds reasonable enough.]

Back to the music room, then?

[serrata]

Yes, of course! If you're going to play for me, it'd be nice for the two of us to have some privacy.

[ She almost winces because that feels like laying it on too thick. She just hopes beyond hope, beyond anything that he's too smitten to cotton on. ]

Go ahead and lead the way, then.

[karappo]

[For anyone else, she might be...but Karamatsu is none the wiser as he nods vigorously and gestures for her to follow him, turning to head back the way he came with his guitar still in tow.]

Do you play at all, Yuuri-san? I could perhaps teach you sometime.

[serrata]

Not at all, no. I played a little recorder back in elementary school, but that's not quite the same level, is it?

[ She falls into step behind him, rather than walk by his side. She wants to be able to catch him off guard the very instant they're out of sight, so she can be sure she doesn't miss her chance. ]

[karappo]

Oh, I don't know...it could be the very thing that inspires one to pursue music more seriously. I started out playing the recorder as well, but then I started gaining interest in more complex instruments.

[The strings on his guitar give a hollow, plaintive sound as the guitar hits his back when he walks as if to punctuate his words.]

[serrata]

[ She gives a soft laugh. ]

Mm, I'm not so sure it's for me, though. I'm happy enough gardening. You have to really give yourself to an instrument to be any good with it, don't you? I don't know if I'd want to give it that level of commitment if it took time away from doing something else I love.

[ Stop talking, she wants to say. The more he talks and the more he reminds her that he's a real, living person, someone she thinks of as a friend, it's so much harder to dehumanize him into a victim, a thing, in my way and disposable. ]

[karappo]

[If Yuuri wanted Karamatsu to stop talking, well...she unfortunately wasn't going to get that. He's not the type to stop, especially not when he's under the impression this is a perfectly friendly conversation going on. He should be wary and suspicious like he's been all week, but...he trusts Yuuri. She wouldn't hurt him, nor would she harm a hair of anyone else in here. He just doesn't believe she would.

He keeps chatting with her as they get to the music room, not stopping hardly to take a breath. He even seems to get more animated once they get there.]

That is understandable! But I daresay we have all the time in the world now...if you ever wanted to learn, now would be the opportune time for it.

[serrata]

[ Alright. This is far enough. If she does it here then no one will know. So long as she gets back to the dorms in time and no one sees her. She can do this. She thinks. ]

... well. It's not like I have anything else to do, is it?

[ Just breathe in and out, in and out, don't lose your nerve, just wait and hang on until he turns his back on you. That's all.

She looks around the music room, trying to find something that might work as a distraction and then turns that syrupy sweet smile back on him. ]

Then how about you pick out something you'd recommend for me?

[karappo]

[Karamatsu had actually been expecting her to ask, so in response he nods and walks over to the wall of the room where all of the instruments are either leaning or hanging. There's quite an impressive selection, all the kinds of instruments you might find in a highschool band.]

Alright, let's see...

[And Yuuri gets just what she wants. His back to her, vulnerable as he looks for something for her to play.]
