AI HOSHINO ★ VOICE TEST/CMO

A voice test/general CMO for Ai Hoshino from Oshi no Ko! I'm planning on using the English dub for voice reference so this is mostly to get me into her head for playing her down the line.

I haven't settled on a 'default' canon point for her yet, so I'll be jumping around from her teen years to 20 depending on what better suits any given thread – you can also indicate a preference for if you want teen idol Ai or grown up idol Ai!

[ Not that Ai has any place to talk... at least, that's how it seems to hurt. ]

Not that I'm criticising you! But if that's the kind of idol you want to be, things might be hard for you.

... I mean... It's not that I want to be like that...

[This must be why Ai is the perfect idol, huh? She could just look directly into Tap's heart so easily...]

Is being an idol really beyond me? I just like singing and dancing...

[ Being an idol like me is beyond you, is what Ai thinks and decides not to say. The more Tap says, the more she becomes convinced that her initial impression was right – this girl's love is much too pure and bright to be the dirty, greedy sort of idol that Ai has made her bread and butter being. ]

That's only something you can decide, you know. [ There. That sounds a little kinder, a little gentler. ] A lot of people really like dancing and signing, but being an idol is a little different. You have to open your heart to all sorts of people and that's always going to be a little bit risky. You have to decide for yourself if that's going to be worth it.

[ Ai steps away to peer into the mirror and start peeling some of the pins and accessories out of her hair. She can change properly when she gets home and she can toss all the pieces of her outfit into the wash but letting her hair down is a good casual thing to be doing with her hands while she leads into this conversation. ]

What did you think? Did you get along with everybody?

Dreaming about something is the first step to making it happen! That's how things worked for me.

[ That's not... technically a lie, not really. It just sounds a little nicer when she says it like that and in this context, is all. ]

So maybe if you dream about it hard enough, you can work up the courage to make it real.

[She perks up.]

That's right! No matter what it is, love can make anything real! If you love a world enough, if you love a character enough, they can become real, so something like this should work the same way!

That's exactly right! [ Ai gives her a cheery thumbs up. ] As long as you put enough love into it, then things will work out eventually.

[ That's how it worked for me, she'd said. And it was true - the fans and the people around her loving Hoshino Ai was how she'd been made "real". Real in the sense that she was a thing that could be observed, the way a trick of the light is 'real'.

Real enough that maybe even a girl like Tap, who's scared of her own shadow, could stand up on stage too. ]

So do you think you've got enough love in you to go for it?

[tapformana]

Probably!

[She bounces in place.]

I've got enough love that it gave me a body like this, after all!

[ .................. bounce bounce, indeed.................. Ai's never been one of those girls who longs for a more........ generous figure, but this girl would make anyone feel like a flat up and down board by comparison, huh...... ]

[... Well. It's not hard to tell what Ai is thinking. Where does she even start with this?]

[Not nearly in the same way that Ruby can, but maybe that's because they're all girls? It's hard to say. Or rather, because his age and his body disagree and thus he comes off as unsettling by his very nature.]

Hmm, that's good. You're all important to me, so I'm glad that you're getting along.

[ Even if... maybe things aren't quite the way they used to be. She can't even remember when things changed or when she realized bitterness had replaced the cheery camaraderie they'd had as children. She can't even blame them, not really – in their position, Ai can't pretend she'd feel any differently. But it still stings and she still wishes things could be different.

She pulls another pin loose from her hair and the bouncy side ponytail flutters back into the rest of her hair. She still hasn't turned to face Aqua as she speaks. ]
