OC VOICETEST FOR CLARITY SKYLARK

Clairty is a genius detective stymied somewhat by the fact that she only really has one braincell to speak of. Her energy and good-natured desire to meddle in everything can get her most of the way, but her wacked priorities and her love of a good hearty adventure often trip her up, even when she has the best of intentions in mind. Eliminate everything else and what's left will surely be the truth! ... or a gold-plated reasonable facsimile of the truth, anyway. Cliffnotes/quick overview for meme purposes below:

Clairty IS:

• Somewhere in her ambiguously early-to-mid 20's with a pretty average build and standing at about 5'4''. She has long black hair that falls to her lower back with blunt cut bangs just above her eyebrows. She's got what could be called a plain face, but she tends to have very intense expressions which makes her features look a bit more striking than they actually are. Her only really notable facial feature is her eyes which are very striking and a very intense shade of blue.
  
• Perky Goth Detective aesthetic!! She dresses mostly in whites with accents of black. The setting is kind of quasi-Victorian era mystery so there's some elements of Lolita in there too.
  
• From a setting that runs, at least to some degree, on Rule of Funny and/or Cool. Think of something like BTAS Gotham but drenched in Harley Quinn energy and you've got the right sort of idea.
  
• A genius detective who solves all sorts of crimes that take place in the city she lives in. Her current target is the dastardly phantom thief, Bluejay!! (he's her boyfriend) (she knows he's her boyfriend) (literally neither of them see anything even remotely incongruous with this arrangement)
  
• Kind of an airhead despite her intellect – has a long of wacked priorities and sometimes self-sabotages by slacking on studies because she enjoys the experience of unexpectedly learning things so much
  
• EXTREMELY animated at all times. Always bursting with energy and eats a lot of food to make up for it.
  
• Well-meaning and unable to keep her nose out of trouble if she thinks she can help


Clairty IS NOT:

• Familiar with modern day culture or technology
  
• Genuinely cruel, actively malicious or mean-spirited to the average person
  
• In apparent posession of more than one braincell

[The Chariot's in a pretty old-fashioned world this time, so everybody immediately stands out. It's too bad they don't have more storage space for clothes. And so tonight, we find Kagura in a tacky Halloween-store "olden times" dress (it's not even from the right decade), walking awkwardly down the street and trying not to draw attention. Well, until she spots Clarity in a hurry.]

[Where Lord Suppingsworth's prize possession, an emerald a tiny statue of a knight riding a horse carved out of an emerald the size of your fist, once sat now sits a cheap tin soldier, as a child could find at any toy shop. The toy soldier is propping up a note card that says, "A fair trade, I think. A toy soldier for a toy soldier.

Yes! Thievery!

[ All at once, Clairty whirls around and seizes Kagura by the shoulders. It's not really an aggressive gesture so much as it is Clairty operating at a fifteen right now when everyone else here is at maybe a seven. Just accept it. ]

Did you see him come this way?!

I'm not sure! [She tenses up, probably to keep this cheap dress from fraying when Clarity grabs her.] What does he look like? I haven't been here very long!

[ Lord Suppingsworth likes his trinkets – likes them well enough that as soon as he catches wind of there being a thief in town, he throws all his weight around until the detective heading the case comes down personally to keep an eye on his collection. It's a bit below Clairty's paygrade, but she's a woman of her word, so down she comes to keep an eye on things.

Of course, when The Bluejay's around, things don't always go as planned and there goes one of Lord Suppingworth's precious trinkets – the precious trinket, rather. Clarity's pretty sure she's never seen a living human go that shade of purple before. ]

The fiend! [ once she's done reading the note she tears it clean in half right then and there. Mostly just because she's getting caught up in the drama. ] Lord Suppingworth! Don't you fret!

[ She clenches her fist dramatically as anything and raises it to the sky. ]

The Bluejay will be behind bars soon enough! Mark my words.

[ditztective]

... so, anyway! That's how it went!

[ ... What, did you think this was all happening in real time? No, we're just enjoying Clarity's very animated flashback retelling of how things went down at the mansion afterwards. She wasn't going to miss dinner! That'd be incredibly rude. ]

It really is a mystery, though... we had guards patrolling all up and down the halls and none of them saw a single thing! If I just had a clue to start myself off with, I'd work it all out in no time...

[ She pauses to take a thoughtful bite of her food, but no epiphany comes. So she just sighs and looks at her dinner partner with sparkling eyes. ]

[ That's not SUPER helpful. ]

The legendary phantom thief, The Blujay! He hides his face behind that of a twittering bird's, and lulls you into a false sense of security, and then when you least expect it? He strikes, stealing away everything that's precious to you! He may call himself a Blujay, but make no mistake, he's a hawk through and through!

[ this is... such an impassioned little speech. ]

He must be put behind bars for the good of the city! Please, if you've seen anything at all, you must let me know!

[Foley paused to spear a bit of squash on his fork before using it to gesture meaningfully.]

/I would think that, if I were to try something like this, my FIRST thought would be to bribe the groundskeeper to leave a window unlocked and then scale the outside wall. But I would also, being a kindhearted soul, realize that if the police found out about that, the groundskeeper would definitely lose his job and even maybe go to prison.

[He ate the squash.]

So if I were a brilliant and attractive police detective, I would start by considering routes that wouldn’t bring the wrath of the law down on undeserving staff.

[That ought to rule out a few dead ends for her. More than fair. The truth of it was that he had come in through the floorboards and taken the statuette through the very podium it stood on through very careful use of a hand drill and saw.]

Hypothetically, of course.

Oh, of course! Really, all of this is about the hypotheticals. It's not like either of us know for sure what's going on in the Blujay's head. It's just about narrowing things down to the smallest number of possible conclusions and then doing your best from there!

[ This is, one might say, a remarkably cavalier attitude towards solving crime but well... Clarity's still employed for a reason. ]

So, even if we can't rule it out entirely, bribery of the staff isn't the ideal angle to take... A building as old as Suppingsworth Manor's sure to have all kinds of nooks and crannies perfect for a thief. I'll just have to narrow it down to the right one!

[ She nods to herself and, apparently satisfied with that, she starts eating in earnest. Her serving is probably twice the size of Foley's, easily, but it's probably going to be gone in half the time. ]

That sounds serious. I haven't seen anything, but there can't be that many people wearing bird masks around here. Wait, that was literal, right?

Oh yes, very much so! It's how he hides himself from the rest of the world. Perfect for a dastardly thief like him!

And if it hits you in the face, then it really hurts.

That's generally what would happen, yes... I haven't seen anything like it, but I can try! Which way did you say he was going?

That's the spirit! With that kind of dedication, I imagine it's only a matter of time before you catch the handsome devil!

[For once, he was actually keeping up with her in cleaning his plate. He always had more of an appetite after a successful con. He kept catching himself just kind of watching her eat, though. Even with such a mundane task, Clarity was so full of life and energy he couldn't help but watch her and smile to himself.

Eventually, food was finished, and desert was ordered.]

Anyways, I find myself in a bit of a predicament, as long as we're looking to each other for advice.

Oh, I have no idea whatsoever!

[ doesn't that just fill you to brimming with confidence in the police in this city? ]

But he did leave a note saying he'd be making his escape and I'm sure the trail can't have gone cold yet!

A predicament?

[ Clairty's eyes go wide and while they don't quite start lighting up the room with her curiosity just yet, there's certainly a sparkle in them. ]

You're not in any sort of trouble, are you? If there's something I can do to help, you have to tell me right away!

Oh... well, where did he come from?

[As she asks this, some flowery vines start to grow up out of the pavement cracks, attaching to the nearest building.]

I wouldn’t say trouble, per se? It’s more of an embarrassing situation.

[Foley produces the emerald horseman from somewhere in his jacket, because of course he fucking had it. It glittered a deep and rich green in the candlelight.

Then, he produced a second horseman. It looked almost identical.

He set them both on the table in front of her.]

[ With way more swish than is strictly necessary, Clarity finally lets go of Kagura and spins on her heel so she can point up the street. ]

The Swallowtail Institute! They house precious gems from all over the world, so of course, it was an obvious target!

[ Going by the trajectory of her furious gesturing, it looks like she's talking about the big museum-looking building at the top of the street. ]

Oh, how cute!

[ Without missing a single beat, Clarity uses her napkin to carefully pick up both the pieces by the base – yeah, she's a dumbass, but she's not quite dumb enough to get her fingerprints all over Foley hands to her. ]

It looks just like Lord Suppingworth's... but why on Earth do you have two of them?

Oh, wow! [Kagura follows her gaze and smiles.] Looks like there are a lot of roads leading there... Have you tried getting a higher vantage point?

[With that, she grabs one of the rapidly growing vines with both hands and starts just. catching a ride up the building.]

[ Without any apparent indication that she finds any of this strange, Clarity goes to hurry after her – and then all of a sudden she stops and looks more than a little perturbed. ]

By higher, you mean– the rooftops, perhaps?

[periclymenum]

[She stops growing the vines, leaving her hanging halfway up the building, where she quickly finds her footing in a windowsill.]

Why not? You'll get a better view of the city. ...oh, this is weird, isn't it. You never know from place to place.

N–no, it's not that at all! I just...

[ mumblemumble, too quiet for Kagura to hear. ]

Huh... If Euchylia won't help, then what else can we do without getting a higher vantage point?

[Still said while halfway up a building. People are staring.]

H–heading up to the rooftops to pursue him would be the obvious route to take – so it's clearly a trick! I'm sure he'd make his escape on the streets if he wanted to bamboozle me!
