[ Life before and after the Grandcypher's arrival couldn't have been any less alike, Narmaya sometimes thinks. The forest and the mountains she'd known had been dark and quiet, green and black and the Grandcypher was loud and bright, bathed in a cerulean blue so vivid it makes her heart ache to take it in.
And there's so many people coming and going on what seems like a daily basis. Some people join to stay, of course, just as Narmaya had, but some seem content to stay with the crew for just a week or a month before going back to their lives. It means there's an almost never-ending stream of new people who are settling into life on the ship who need help with this and that. So of course Narmaya's thrown herself into the mother hen role with an almost unsettling level of fervour. With how busy she is, it means there's less time in the day for her training but she doesn't mind.
Anna, though, is a project. She's so timid that Narmaya fears if she spooks the girl, she'll send her fleeing right off the end of the Grandcypher. So as much as it's tearing her apart inside to keep her distance, she does her best to not focus too much on Anna until she's sure that she won't terrify her.
So! Out onto the deck she goes. Everyone needs someone to look after them and she's certain Anna's no different. ]
Good morning, Anna! You're not too cold out here, are you? Should I bring out a blanket?
[ This is Narmaya restraining herself. We're off to a flying start already. ]
