[You know what's great about being back home after saving the world? Marie has a wood-burning oven in her cabin. Sophie gets to come in to the smell of pepper cookies baking as Marie brushes a fruitcake with another layer of rum.]

[ It's not quite snowing yet, but things are chilly enough that Sophie's had to bundle up for her trip back. She's been making visits to some of the people she knows need a little extra help getting through the darker, colder months – she might not be a doctor like Alice, but sometimes a kind word and the right blend of herbs can work miracles in their own way. ]

Well, I'm out of eggs now, but I know a few things to make without them. Could you grease that round pan? There are some cakes that'll last in the mail even if you send them across the ocean.

[Whatever, it's cold and snowy outside, and wherever they are there's at least one person who's been spreading the good word of Christmas or Candlenights or Winter's Crest or the fantasy/sci-fi festival of your choice.]

[This is almost certainly not any kind of secret, even if Penny thinks it is. But at least the wrapping job on the box she's presenting is nice.]

[ Chitoge's never really been a social butterfly at parties. Granted, the ones she's used to are a fair bit more on the hoity-toity side — sumptuous galas with decadent hors d'oeuvres, where everyone and their mother is dressed to the nines (on the mafia's dime, of course). By comparison, tonight's holiday get-together seems decisively low-key; a festive little shindig with plenty of hot cocoa and decorated gingerbread cookies to go around. A couple of logs burning in the fireplace, carols on the speakers, It's A Wonderful Life muted on the flat-screen. An excuse for everyone in the room to whip out the most ludicrous sweater they could pull from the back of their closets.

It's...well, it's cozy. You won't hear a "bah-humbug" from Chitoge's lips, at least; she's all for letting everyone rock around the Christmas tree in a new old-fashioned way (whatever the heck that means). She's even done her best to look the part, with her own utterly horrendous pullover, fresh off the back of a rack at Kohl's. It's a bit of a change of pace, getting to see everyone mingling and giggling under the red and green string lights...

Still, for all the warmth and holiday cheer in the room, Chitoge seems pretty content to enjoy it from a distance. She doesn't seem uncomfortable, really, but it's a bit of a lonely sight to catch the stray blonde parked under the stockings by the chimney. As boisterous as she can be, she's a textbook wallflower at the end of the day, but she at least seems content to take slow sips from a mug very-much-overfilled with whipped cream and marshmallows.

Maybe she's just keeping a watchful eye over it. You never know when you might encounter a chocolate thief, after all. ]

Well, it's like you said. We've made a lot of new friends this year and...

[ Her smile turns a little somber. ]

Things have been so hard... that I'd like to make sure the next year starts off well for everyone.

[There's a festival happening in Mond, and it's attracted travelers from far and wide. It's Kaeya's job to keep an eye out on the festivities to make sure nothing untoward is going on, which is why he's mainly outside to begin with. But also? Who doesn't love a festival? And while- yes- there had been more than their share of trouble lately with things like dragons and nasty folk causing trouble beyond the usual petty crimes, even the knights deserved a break.

Yes, even the Knights of Favonious whom Kaeya could already hear Diluc critisizing for being incompetent. He also knew the saying "all work and no play", so. Kaeya is going to take advantage of the break in awful things happening for like, a second, thank you.

Namely...the fact that a pond just outside of the gates to the city had been iced over was largely due to Kaeya using his Vision. It's plenty cold to keep it frozen, but he's here juuust to make sure it doesn't thin through while people are having fun skating over the surface. Just as he's making another cursory sweep, he gets a sudden premonition that Something's Coming...

He happens to put his arms out just as Bryn comes hurtling his way from some direction across the ice, catching her easily.]

Easy there, miss. Had I not been here, you would be six feet in a snowbank by now.

[She puts down the food brush and goes to actually face Sophie.]

We'll be fine, trust me. Aren't you working yourself to exhaustion already?

[ What Erina thinks in her head: something like "aww, damn, Penny got me a gift, she bought me a thing when she didn't have to, that's thoughtful and cute. Penny's cute."

What Erina actually says out loud, with her hell mouth: ]

Oh shit, free stuff. [ God motherfucking damn it, Erina. She takes the present and gives it an eyeball. ] ... thanks. You, uh, didn't have to get me anything, so it's cool you did. Am I good to open it?
